This collection of short stories and musings served to gently challenge me to consider and thrive in the spiritual reality of my life.
Using stories from his experience being unemployed and as a hospital chaplain, my dad is able to bring a sense of reality and relevance to otherwise ambiguous topics such as joy, pain, fear, prayer, and motivation. His intent is to help the reader become more aware of the spiritual nature of our lives, and motivate the reader to experience the richness of that spirituality in the here and now.
Personally, God has been teaching me the importance of relationship over task. God calls me to himself and others and the act of following Christ into these relationships will bring me through a path of service, but the service is not the goal, the relationship is. Reading this book confirmed some of these themes for me and helped to broaden my understanding of what it means to spiritually experience and engage God through everyday life.
I know that the writing of this book helped my dad keep his sanity during his unemployment, but more than that, I believe this book will serve to encourage many to explore and embrace a neglected spiritual side of their lives. Well done, dad.
